General Info

If you're craving a taste of authentic Korean cuisine in the heart of Edinburgh, On Bap is the perfect destination. Nestled on Clerk Street, this cozy Korean restaurant offers an inviting atmosphere and a menu full of mouthwatering dishes that will transport your taste buds straight to Korea. Whether you're a fan of rich, savory stews or crispy, flavorful bites, On Bap has something to satisfy every craving.

One of the standout dishes at On Bap is their Ttukbaegi Bulgogi, a sizzling hot pot filled with tender marinated beef, fresh vegetables, and a savory broth. The rich, flavorful taste combined with the warmth of the stone bowl makes it a comforting choice, especially on a chilly Edinburgh day. If you prefer something with a bit of spice, the Sweet Chilli Fried Chicken is an absolute must-try. It's crispy, golden, and coated in a perfectly balanced sweet and spicy sauce that leaves you wanting more after every bite.

For those who love finger foods, the Chicken Wings and Fish Cakes are a great choice. The wings are tender and perfectly seasoned, making them a favorite among regulars, while the fish cakes offer a delightful texture with a hint of savory goodness. If you're looking for a lighter option, the Gimbap (Korean rice rolls) is a refreshing treat. Filled with fresh ingredients like vegetables, egg, and sometimes meat, it's the Korean take on sushi and is ideal for a snack or a light meal.

The restaurant itself is a wonderful place to enjoy these delectable dishes, offering both dine-in options and convenient facilities like restrooms for guests. Plus, it’s a hassle-free experience with the option to pay using both credit and debit cards, making it accessible for everyone.

What really sets On Bap apart is its warm, welcoming atmosphere, which mirrors the hospitality you'd expect in a Korean home. The flavors are expertly crafted, and the menu is thoughtfully curated to offer a wide variety of choices that cater to all tastes. Whether you’re new to Korean cuisine or a seasoned fan, each dish promises a unique and memorable dining experience.

If you find yourself in Edinburgh and are in the mood for Korean food that’s packed with flavor and heart, On Bap should be at the top of your list. Its vibrant menu, friendly service, and cozy ambiance create the perfect setting for enjoying a delicious meal with friends or family.

What customers say?

“ Been coming here since my uni days and haven’t grown bored or got let down by the food once. Their menu has become minimal over the years which is the only shame, but understandable as it’s more like a family/home meal diner. Would particularly recommend the KFC, kimichi pancake, gimbap, bibimbap and stews - my partner also loves their chicken rice. My absolute favourite (has changed over the years as their menu evolves) now is their spicy seafood soup stew. It is SPICY and piping HOT but oh my god so flavourful and satisfying. A very filling meal as it comes with complimentary rice. I would always finish the last drop in the bowl. Service is always good. Think they also do a student/cash discount. Would usually spend £10-20 per person here and hope they keep the prices this way! Overall always one of my favourite Korean restaurants in town. ”

“ One of the best places for bibimbap in Edinburgh. The vegan version was really tasty, especially the tofu. Really friendly staff and cosy interior. ”

“ I’m from Korea, and this was truly delicious. I get frustrated when Korean food is overly influenced by other countries’ tastes—especially Chinese or Vietnamese styles—but this place serves authentic, traditional Korean food. If you want to see and taste humble, genuine Korean cuisine, this is the place to go. ”

“ Homely food and atmosphere. We had pork kimchi jigae and ttukbaegi bulgogi (what you can see in the video) which were both hearty and superbly flavoured. Very reasonably priced. Rice was perfect. Also they were very accomodstjng to my gf partner. Pop in for lunch or dinner if you've got a chance - you won't regret. Will be going back here soon! ”

“ The best place in Edinburgh for Korean food. Everything gives such a homey vibe and the food is very delicious and make you want to return for more. Dishes come out very fast and the staff are very friendly. ”

“ Been coming here for ~3 years and its still my favourite in Edinburgh! Love the sundubu jjigae and cheese dak galbi (if im hungry enough to do it justice!) Love the simple clean atmosphere. Only thing to note is if you come in groups >4 might be hard to find space. I usually come here alone or in a pair so its perfect :) ”

“ Second time trying Korean food, in my opinion it was good. The sweet chill fried chicken with nuts on top was delicious and definitely would get it again (3/5). The katsu curry was well presented and tasted delicious (4/5). The only issue was that we waited around 20 to 30 minutes to get a table. ”

“ Good soul food, exactly what we needed, will be back (hopefully the fried chicken won't be sold out then) ”
